Campanile Earns Medalist Honors in Amateur Qualifying at Jumping Brook
NEPTUNE, N.J. – Anthony Campanile of Deal Golf and Country Club fired a two-over-par 73 to claim medalist honors today in the first qualifying round for the 122nd NJSGA Amateur Championship presented by Provident Bank at Jumping Brook Country Club on Tuesday.
With a strong wind blowing and course conditions playing difficult, Campanile was able to stay persistent in his approach.
"I was staying patient. The greens are smooth and fast and quick but with the wind blowing up, some of the pin locations made it really hard,” said Campanile. “Just tried to stay patient.”
After starting on the tenth hole, Campanile finished his front-nine strong after carding two clutch birdies on two of his final four holes.
“My game feels good,” said Campanile, “I've been playing well for a couple years and just haven't gotten it done. So, it would be great (to win)... anytime you win it’s fun.”
Campanile and 17 others now advance to the 122nd Amateur Championship at Manasquan River Golf Club on July 10-12.
The next qualifier is this Saturday, June 3rd at Quail Brook Golf Course in Somerset.
